As a parent, I dread hearing the phrase I'm bored. Once childhood ennui sets in, there seems to be no suggestion or activity that can cure it. So I set out one evening to banish the phrase from the following day. It only took a plan (and a commitment to myself to stay away from the computer.)
It was a gorgeously warm day. After looking through my art books to find images of a few Jackson Pollock paintings and discussing the technique, we took the paints and the long easel paper outside. The front lawn is the perfect spot for messy art like this - even if a few rocks are splattered, they will serve as reminders of a great day together.
By the time he was finished his feet, hands and arms were covered in paint. I rinsed him off in the sink, remembering the nightly sink baths I gave him when he was a bald little baby. Time flies and this kid has grown. The clean up was worth the effort: there was no mention of boredom all day!
Awesome! I daresay that at least one section is frame-worthy!
